PERSIAN GULF (March 26, 2009) The Royal Navy frigate HMS Richardson (F 239) patrols the waters surrounding the Al Basra Oil Terminal off the coast of Iraq while merchant vessels wait to take on oil. Richardson is joined by Iraqi and American ships, including the guided-missile cruiser Lake Champlain, which is deployed as part of the Boxer Amphibious Readiness Group supporting maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. Park Jung-hwa, commander, Republic of Korea Fleet Command, sign into effect a new maritime operational plan during a reception aboard the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), marking the completion of exercise Key Resolve 2009. The revised operational plan sets the foundation for a smooth and seamless transition of wartime operational control responsibilities from U.s. 7th Fleet to Commander, Republic of Korea Fleet Command by April, 2012.
