Naval Hydrographic Survey Paves Way for Liberian Port Reopening

BUCHANAN, Liberia - U.S. Navy Lieutenant Steve McIntyre, Africa Partnership Station (APS) platform HNLMS Johan de Witt (L 801) hydrographic officer, monitors survey data collected during the hydrographic survey of the Buchanan port November 3, 2009. This survey, along with surveys conducted in Greenville and Monrovia, produce data necessary to generate up-to-date navigational charts to make the ports more accessible to commercial maritime traffic and contribute to economic development and maritime safety. APS began as a U.S. initiative under U.S. Naval Forces Africa, the Navy component of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). (U.S. Navy photo by Lieutenant Travis Clem)
