No one has ever come here for 35 years. Not even the Russians.

Georgian soldiers with Company B, 31st Georgian Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 2, speak with a local Afghan elder during a joint-patrol to his village in Farah Province, July 22. Speaking with the local Afghans, the soldiers of Company B soon learned this area rarely receives any outside visitors. “No one has ever come here for 35 years. Not even the Russians,” said Naqib, a local villager, through an interpreter. Mistaken for Russian soldiers in the past, the Georgian soldiers emphasized they were not Russians, and were there to help and learn as much as possible about the local security situation and needs of their village. After meeting with the local elders, the soldiers distributed toys, and their company medic examined some of the villagers, providing medical care to those in need. Courtesy Photo.
